Ich habe irgendwo die Tabelle gesehen, finde sie
aber nicht wieder. Statt die Länder beispielsweise
in alphabetischer Reihenfolge, nach Einwohnerzahl
o.ä. aufzulisten, wurde Israel gleich als erstes
Land aufgeführt, dann kamen die unten genannten
Staaten. Die EU wurde zuletzt, quasi als Referenz
druntergesetzt, also, die wurde von vornherein als
nicht gefährlich für den Weltfrieden eingeschätzt.
Das Ergebnis lag bei ca. 8 Prozent.

Jeder weiß, daß bei solchen Befragungen von den
meisten (!) das zuerst genannte angekreuzt wird,
und dann kreuzt der Befragte vielleicht noch
andere an. Das ist so. Was man zuerst setzt, wird
von den Menschen für am wichtigsten gehalten. Wenn
die EU dort gestanden hätte, wäre ihr Prozentsatz
sehr viel höher gewesen.

Wie bei solcher Voreingenommenheit die EU im
nahöstlichen Friedensprozeß wirken soll, ist mir
rätselhaft.

Respondents in the survey were presented a list of
15 nations and were asked if each country
"presents or not a threat to peace in the world."
According to their answers, the rankings from most
threatening to least were Israel, Iran, North
Korea, United States, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan,
Syria, Libya, Saudi Arabia, China, India, Russia,
Somalia and the European Union itself.

included in the list "because it is not a

More than 7,500 people were surveyed in the poll,
which was sponsored and released by the European
Commission.

Respondents ranked Iran, North Korea and the
United States as the second, third and fourth most
threatening countries.

The French were among the least likely and the
Dutch, Austrians, Luxembourgers and Germans were
the most likely to consider Israel a threat.
Younger people were far more likely to describe
the United States as a threat.

"The Union is heavily engaged in contributing to
the implementation of the road map" - the
Middle-East peace plan backed by the Bush
administration - "and has, therefore, always
considered Israel an essential interlocutor and a
country characterized by values and institutions
founded on the deepest democratic principles,"
Frattini said.
